We encourage you to do so as soon as possible!

Travel Requirements

Be sure to have the correct travel documentation to book your travel to and from Salaya, Thailand. The conditions for entry to Thailand depend on your citizenship. All participants arriving from outside of Thailand must have a valid passport to travel. Check the official visa requirements prior to booking your journey.

Accommodations in Salaya

We strongly recommend staying in Salaya for the duration of the Seminar. If you are interested in staying in Bangkok, please be prepared to travel to and from Salaya daily. Travel each way can take over an hour, but prices are reasonable and rides can be booked through apps. We recommend that you plan to stay until July 3, as the final Seminar program will take place on the evening of July 2.  If you are arriving from a region with a 6 hour + time difference, we encourage you to arrive in Thailand at least 24-36 hours before the Seminar begins to adjust.

Transportation

Travel to and from BKK Airport

We recommend flying into Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), Bangkok. Travel between BKK and Salaya averages around one hour.

You can catch an airport taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Salaya. Please use the taxi desk on Level 1 to book. The trip should cost approximately 25 USD (700–800 Baht), with an airport surcharge of 50 Baht and a 75 Baht highway toll. Pre-booked airport shuttles are also available for approximately 40 USD.  Stay tuned for details.

Travel in and around Salaya

  • Within Salaya, taxis and the Grab App ride service are effective, or, try a motorcycle taxi!

  • Public Bus No. 515 from Victory Monument to Central Salaya stops at the Thai Film Archive, operating 5 am–10 pm. Air-conditioned.

  • Salaya is a walkable town, but please note that Thailand in June is known for high temperatures and humidity.

Travel Information

Currency

Currently $1 USD is equal to about 36 THB. Check for updated rates before you travel.

The official currency in Thailand is the Thai Baht (THB) available in coins and bills. Banknotes are issued in 20, 50, 100, 500, and 1000 baht denominations and coins include 1, 2, 5, and 10 baht and smaller units called satang. Carry smaller bills for convenience. For example, if you pay for 100 baht (~$3 USD) street food with a 1000 baht banknote (~$28 USD) , the vendor may not have enough change.

Currency Exchange and ATMs

There is a Bureaux de Change at the Bangkok airport. ATMs can dispense THB, subject to banking conditions in Salaya.

Bank cards

Major cards like Maestro, MasterCard, and Visa are accepted in larger shops and malls.

Internet & WiFi

Wifi is available at the Thai Film Archive. Data plans can be purchased at the airport and convenience stores. Public hotspots are available in many hotels, restaurants, cafés, and airports.

Power supply

The electricity in Thailand is 220 V and 50 Hz. The plug types are C and O. Be sure you bring the correct adaptors to charge your devices!

Weather

The temperatures in Thailand during June and July are high, between 26°C (79°F) and 35°C (95°F), and can often feel even hotter with the humidity.

Tap Water

The tap water is considered safe but not recommended for drinking. Drinking bottled or filtered water is recommended for all visitors to Thailand.

Tipping

Tipping is not mandatory in Thai restaurants and bars. Large restaurants may include a service charge.
