The Seminar in New York City

To ensure both accessibility for all participants, the Flaherty Seminar offers tiered pricing.

This is an honor system, we ask that you contribute what you can, especially if you benefit from economic stability, or have an institution underwriting your registration. To state the obvious, we are in very precarious times, and small organisations like ours will be at pains to survive the years to come. Registration income is a major help in buoying us through these turbulent times.

All tiers include:

  • Access to all 5 public programs and seminar discussions with invited programmers, artists, and special guests, including Opening Night at MoMA, all programs at the New School, and Closing Program at DCTV.

  • Snacks and coffee throughout the seminar

  • Evening social events, including the Flaherty Party.

  • Full access to the Online Experience.

Please Note: Registration this year does not include meals, travel or accommodations. Participants should plan accordingly for food, lodging and transport.

There will be a limited number of tickets available at each price point. We encourage you to register as soon as possible.

Tier 1 | Discounted Registration – $150

This subsidized registration option is designed to ensure our seminar remains accessible to essential community members, independent creators, emerging professionals, and individuals facing financial constraints. While this rate is below the actual cost per attendee, it provides full access to all seminar activities and sessions, as well as the Online Experience. If you qualify for this tier but can comfortably afford the standard registration, we warmly encourage you to consider the Tier 2 ($250) option to help sustain our programming.

Tier 2: Standard Registration – $250

Our standard registration fee helps cover the operational costs of the seminar while remaining reasonably priced. This tier provides complete access to all seminar activities and sessions, as well as the Online Experience. Your participation at this level directly contributes to the sustainability of our programming and community-building efforts.

Tier 3 | Institutional Registration – $500

This registration tier is ideal for participants whose attendance is funded by their institution or organization, or for established professionals who wish to support our commitment to accessibility and a more sustainable seminar model. By registering at this level, you're helping us maintain our inclusive pricing model while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the seminar. Contributing through Tier 3 registration completely covers the cost of organizing the Seminar and allows us to continue our work for years to come!

Tier 4 | Pay-It-Forward Registration – $1000

Make a meaningful impact with your registration! This option includes your full seminar access while simultaneously sponsoring attendance for a qualifying community member who might otherwise be unable to participate. Your generosity helps us build a more diverse and inclusive seminar environment. We gratefully acknowledge all Pay-It-Forward Registrants during the seminar.

Programming &
Non-Preconception

The Seminar is an exploratory process, and has espoused since its founding the concept of non-preconception. To this end, we do not announce the Seminar program beforehand – no one knows what they will be watching until the lights go down in the cinema. Film notes and trigger warnings will be made available to participants before each screening begins. The Seminar is programmed as a continuum where program sessions relate to, riff off of, and expand on one another.

Single Tickets

Single tickets will be available for the Seminar programs at the discretion and capacity of each venue (MoMA, The New School, and DCTV). More information on single tickets will be shared soon. To ensure participation, we recommend securing a full registration to the Seminar.

The Online Experience will be a mix of synchronous and asynchronous engagements for participants. Scheduled group screenings and facilitated discussions for online audiences will be organized between June 26 and July 31 at varying times to accommodate the global online audience. Additionally, online experience participants will enjoy a curated list of readings and resources and have access to all Seminar films online during and after the Seminar. A detailed schedule of the Online Experience will be shared in May.
