Announcing Our Program Details for
2021 Fall Flaherty NYC:
Transformation and Renewal

The Flaherty is thrilled to announce its upcoming 2021 Fall Flaherty NYC series, Transformation and Renewal programmed by Kelsey White and L u m i a

The six-part series will run December 1st-18th in venues across New York City and online. We are grateful to our co-presentation partners Anthology Film Archives, Microscope Gallery, UnionDocs, and Maysles Documentary Center. This series of films highlights works by artists and visionaries who reimagine life and transform its representation, often in response to the many crises that mark their epochs.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Letters of Intent for the
2023 Flaherty Seminar Programmer/s

The Flaherty invites those interested in programming the 2023 seminar to submit a letter of intent. The deadline has been extended to midnight EST on November 25, 2021.

Programmers can be individuals or those working in small programming teams. All programmers need to have attended the seminar prior to submitting an application.

Upcoming Flaherty Filmmaker Screenings & Events

Vital Signs (1991). Dir. Barbara Hammer

A number of former Flaherty fellows, artists, and attendees will be screening work both in New York City, as well as online during the month of November. 

From November 17 — 23, Jill Godmilow (2014 Flaherty Artist) will be in attendance for select screenings at the first comprehensive survey of her films and videos. Godmilow also has a forthcoming book, titled “Kill the Documentary” from Columbia University Press, which will be published in February of 2022.

Film at Lincoln Center’s The Art of The Real Festival will be taking place in an abridged edition this year from November 19 – 21, curated by Flaherty alumni Rachael Rakes and Laura Huertas Millán. Past Flaherty filmmakers who will be presenting work include Beatriz Santiago Muñoz, Cauleen Smith, Alexandra Cuesta, Ja’Tovia Gary, Thirza Cuthand, Miko Revereza, Barbara Hammer, Abigail Child, Jodie Mack, and Chick Strand. Happening in NYC: DOC NYC

DOC NYC is back in theaters in NYC and online, Nov 10-28.
