Shireen Hamza, 2019 Harvard Flaherty Fellow, shared her reflections on the Seminar on the Critical Media Practice (CMP) blog. Shireen is a PhD student in Harvard’s History of Science department. Her work focuses on the history of science and medicine in the medieval Islamicate world (Islamicate here refers to the multi-confessional world within the borders of Islamic polities).

This two-day film series collaboration with The High Line celebrates the trailblazing Simone Leigh’s Brick House . The two nights feature short works by primarily women filmmakers from around the world. With Leigh’s focus on Black female beauty and empowerment in mind, curators Jon-Sesrie Goff and Claire Diao selected films and videos that represent the range and complexity of Black female-identified creativity.

The Flaherty would like to invite those interested in programming the 2021 seminar to submit a letter of intent. The deadline is September 1, 2019. The Board of Trustees will ask for a second round of application materials by mid-September, and make a final selection in late October. We are also accepting nominations.

Programmers can be individuals or those working in small programming teams. All programmers need to have attended the Seminar prior to submitting an application.
